Economic empowerment in Rwanda

Supporting youth to build financial awareness and capacity

Plan International Rwanda is leading the way in youth economic empowerment, and we are committed to improving young people’s wellbeing, and ensuring that young women and men actively participate in decision-making on issues that affect them at all levels.

We are actively championing the rights of young people, with our support of innovative vocational schemes such as the Hyundai Training Centre for budding auto-mechanics, and support for girls wishing to learn how to be plumbers.

Major activities include building the capacities of community financial cooperatives – such as pig or chicken farmers - through training and the provision of useful materials and equipment; enhanced youth access to finance and financial services through the promotion of VSLAs, and developing marketable skills for youth. We also support rural community members to develop small livestock and fruit plantations as a way of improving their livelihoods and nutrition for longlasting, positive change.
