Resilience Coordinator - Safe Schools

Plan International is an International Humanitarian, Child Centred Development Organisation, implementing development programs that promote the realization and fulfillment of children’s rights and the alleviation of child poverty.

Plan International is planning project “ASEAN Safe Schools Initiative (ASSI) Phase 3 –Children are more resilient to disasters have a safe and secure learning environment“. The project will be implemented in Yangon.

Plan International is seeking one Resilience Coordinator (Safe School) as part of this project.

Position: Resilience Coordinator (Safe School), based in Yangon, frequently travel to the field
Assignment Duration: 1st October 2015 to 31st June 2018

Job background:

This project is as part of the Safe School in Yangon Areas coordination with Department of Basic Education. The project aims “–„Children are more resilient to disasters have a safe and secure learning environment“. There will also be climate change adaptation activities in schools and community.

Plan International seeks the services of a suitably qualified Resilience Coordinator, who will facilitate and coordinate, implement to perform safe school at identified schools in Yangon, and other vulnerable school in Myanmar. Responsibilities:

Develop detailed implementation plan and implement in a timely manner.

Develop training design and coordinate for capacity building of government officials and school teachers

Facilitate and support safe school awareness raisings, trainings and workshops in schools and for school teachers and MoE officials.

Lead in project start-up phase at the CO, before handing over responsibility to the incoming field implementation.

Ensure interventions are achieving and demonstrating resilience impact and results, in particular to promote children rights and roles in the community.

Monitor implementation of the activities according to the plans.

Report on progress of activities of the project, against activity planned.

With the Resilience Specialist and liaise with the concerned Government Departments, Township Education Officers regarding project implementations, issues related to and support in influencing of policies related to school safety.

Participate in the in-country networks for learning and improvement including documenting and disseminating Plan International’s best practices.

Use information from other organizations to promote quality and learning. Support and provide information to Safe Schools Resilience Specialist to engage with regional Safe School project management and report.

Update and consolidate the learning and documentation.

Keep project Documents systematically. Provide assistance as requested by the line manager and Resilience Program Manager when necessary.


Entry Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Minimum 5 years of demonstrated professional experience in disaster management, emergency response or development field • Academic degree in relevant area • Track record in participation, technical training, facilitation and awareness raising activities • Experience in working with children and communities • knowledge of DRR principles, concepts and techniques • Knowledge of school based DRR and/or knowledge of participatory media development processes • Ability to communicate in English is an advantage • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment • Strong team-player and good facilitation skills • Excellent communication skills • Proficient in computer skills
