Birth registration for all in Indonesia: A roadmap for cooperation
A birth certificate is a fundamental rights issue as it concerns a person’s identity. Without a clear legal identity a child is more likely to suffer from exploitation, violence and manipulation. Accelerated birth certificate ownership hopefully will help prevent such things from happening. However, 32 million children in Indonesia do not have a birth certificate.
This report analyses the strengths and weaknesses of the current CRVS system in Indonesia and proposes how digital technologies can be used to increase registration rates, provide legal documentation of all vital events, and produce vital statistics that are complete and accurate.
