Piura: authorities, leaders and students of 4 districts trained in disaster risk management

Authorities and community leaders of 26 communities of the districts of La Arena, Cura Mori, Tambogrande and Querecotillo in Piura were trained by Plan International as part of the organization’s Disaster Risk Management and Protection in Emergency Situations Program.

Participants improved their capacity to implement risk management plans in their communities in order to reduce the impact of natural disasters such as El Niño Phenomenon and have the ability to provide a timely response.

Boys, girls and adults have engaged in risk management by creating their own risk maps, contingency and emergency plans.

Additionally, together with the Ministry of Education, Plan International provided workshops on emergency first response to teachers and students in the main schools of those districts.

As a result of the program, different community actors have an aligned culture of prevention, from schools to local authorities. Boys, girls and adults have engaged in risk management by creating their own risk maps, contingency and emergency plans, identifying vulnerabilities and effective evacuation strategies.
