Early childhood in Peru

Ensuring a healthy start for every child.

Plan International Peru is using its expertise to ensure the integrated development of children and adolescents from their birth to 5 years of age, concentrating particularly on those who live in conditions of poverty and extreme poverty, in the areas where we work.

We have trained over 500 community members on supporting pregnancy and early childhood, rights, gender, and intercultural issues, while over 200 early education teaching specialists now attend social programmes in early education, comprehensive sex education and appropriate treatment for young children, improving their skills to provide intercultural attention and quality care to young children.

We have partnered with communities to construct and fully equip 12 education and community centres for young children, including providing furniture and education material for the development of age-specific activities, for girls as well as boys and pregnant women. The material is also accessible to girls and boys with disabilities to take care to address gender stereotypes.
