Coming from a business management background, Ms Conrad started her career in the development sector with Plan International in Germany 25 years ago.
Since then she has worked in different functions at country and regional level in Plan International offices in the Caribbean and West Africa. Her roles have include Country Director, Togo, and Deputy Regional Director Programmes at the West Africa Regional Office.
In 2012, she joined World Wildlife Fund as Regional Representative for the central African Region, where she was in charge of a regional-wide program to improve forest governance and land-use rights and laws and law enforcement on the wildlife (particularly ivory) trade.
Ms Conrad has returned to Plan International and her personal passion of child rights in January 2014 in the role of Global Advisor for Citizenship & Governance, before taking up leadership for the global Advisors Team of Plan in June 2015.
Her areas of expertise are child and youth participation, (child) rights-based programming, child rights, and participatory advocacy and campaigning.
She is Secretary of the Executive Committee of Child Rights Connect, an international umbrella organization of over 80 Child Rights organisations, and she teaches an annual e-learning course on child rights-based programming with Human Rights Education Associates (www.HREA.org).
Ms Conrad speaks fluent German, English, French and Haitian Creole and is currently based in Niger. In her spare time, she is the Chairman of the Board of the International American School in Niamey, Niger, where her three children attend school.
