Gabriela Bucher is the Chief Operating Officer for Plan International, an organization which strives for a just world that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.
Gabriela is from a multi-cultural background and grew up in Colombia. She studied philosophy and literature at University in Colombia and later moved to France for a DEA in History and Civilisation at EHESS. She has over 20 years’ experience in international development with an emphasis on issues of child rights and gender equality.
Over the last 17 years she has held various roles at Plan International starting as Programme Officer at Plan UK, then moving to Regional Resource Mobilization Advisor at the Regional Office for the Americas and then leading the Colombia office for 11 years as it transformed from being one of the oldest programme offices across the organisation to becoming an active member of national civil society in the country and a member of Plan International.
In August 2017 she relocated to the UK as COO at the Global Hub of Plan International with responsibility for its operations in more than 55 countries and more than 8,000 staff working in more than 50 countries in Asia, Africa and the Americas.
