Plan International Nicaragua is committed to work at a national, municipal, community and school level to ensure that all boys and girls are able to access education.
We have partnered with Nicaragua’s Ministries of Family and Education to strengthen national education policies. We have formed helped inform policies on improved access, retention and the promotion children in the country’s most socially disadvantaged communities.
The government is supporting us in our work with teachers, parents and students at 259 schools. We promote family schools where parents are given access to training on how to overcome problems with their children, such as communication, positive parenting, power relations and protection factors.
Other work includes providing communities with information on bullying, social and financial education, protection against violence, psychosocial care and education in emergencies.
Last year we enabled 233 adolescents living in rural communities to access secondary school through the Tutorial Learning System, which has a specific curriculum adjusted to the daily realities in rural communities, and promotes the development of small business initiatives lead by students.
