With the support of Irish Aid, Plan International Uganda has donated assorted items worth over UGX 550 million (US $ 166,000), The event took place in Maaji III, one of the newly established settlement, Adjumani district.
"I am very happy with the Irish Government as it has been helping the Uganda Government in strengthening lots of interventions like they have done through Plan International Uganda.” Said Hon. Moses Ecweru;Minister of State for Disaster Management and Refugees from the Office of the Prime Minister;who was commending the Irish Government for the continued support.
The Ambassador of Ireland to Uganda, Dónal Cronin, thanked and acknowleged Plan International Uganda for the great work that they are doing in partnership with other like-minded stakeholders, in the refugee receiving areas and commended the Government of Uganda for its progressive refugee policy.
Speaking at the event, Rashid Javed; Country Director of Plan International Uganda said that the items will benefit over 8,000 refugees to supplement their well-being particularly children’s needs in the new settlements of Maaji III, Pagirinya and Boroli II among others.
“Children are the most vulnerable group during emergencies and in the aftermath of a disaster, they are faced with long-term impact of trauma both emotionally and physically. This donation will make lasting change in their lives.” Said Rashid.
Some of the items donated included tents, blankets, saucepans, soap, jerry cans, and mosquito nets.
