Plan International has been working in Myanmar since 2008, helping children and their families to access their rights to protection, nutrition, education, water and sanitation and to stay safe during disasters and conflicts.
Plan International currently works in 5 areas: Rakhine, Mandalay, Kachin, Sagaing and Ayeyarwaddy and this includes working in Internally Displaced People’s Camps in Kachin and Rakhine States.
Myanmar is at risk of natural disasters such as floods and cyclones and from the affects of climate change. This is particularly true in the dry zone (Mandalay), where Plan International Myanmar has launched its sponsorship programme. Access to water remains on ongoing issue in this area, and Plan International is supporting communities to mitigate the affects of climate change and access nurtition and livelihoods services in this area.
Communities with high poverty levels and that are home to some of the most vulnerable children are the focus of our ongoing work in Myanmar, and will remain priorities over the coming years.
