About the 5th Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction:
The 5th session of the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas (DRR) took place by the patronage of the government of Canada, with cooperation of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), the regional platform promotes the first opportunity for governments and other actors in the Americas to share and agree on a regional action plan to support the application of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (Sendai Framework).
The Sendai Framework recognizes that the Global Platform and Regional Platforms for Disaster Risk Reduction are fundamental actors for its application, based on the essential role that it played in support of the application of the Hyogo Framework for Action 2000-2015. The Sendai Framework also stresses the necessity of both the Global Platform and the Regional Platforms function as a coherent mechanical system to help take full advantage of the potential of collaboration with all groups and involved sectors, to offer orientation and support for the application of the Framework.
The main aspect of the 5th session of the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas is to discuss the way in which governments, ministries, leaders of the civil society, the technical and scientific institutions, the private sector, and media might advance the applications and the awaited results of the Sendai Framework in the Americas. It is expected to have more than 1000 delegations present, such as policy makers, professionals in diverse fields and experts on disaster risk management.
Plan International is a part of the Coalition for the Resilience of Children and Youth of Latin America and the Caribbean (CORELAC) and the Regional Disaster Risk Management Group in the Education sector, for such motives it has been linked to the preparation and participation of the young Paraguayan Daneli as a representative of adolescents and youth in Latin America and the Caribbean.
