III Children and Teenagers’ Congress organised by Plan International

Plan International, in coordination with Tambogrande’s Municipal Child Assistance Service (DEMUNA for its Spanish initials), organised the III Children and Teenagers’ Congress.

This activity occurred as part of the celebrations for the 26th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which recognises the right of children to a full physical, mental and social development, as well as to express their opinions with freedom.

In this Congress, more than 400 children and discussed and reflected about child rights and the main challenges towards their fulfilment in the district of Tambogrande, and their proposals will be part of the Tambogrande Children Council’s work plan.

In the ceremony, a group of children and teenagers were sworn in as representatives for the period 2016-2018. These children and teenagers were previously elected by their peers through voting.

The previous representatives (for the period 2013-2015) were also honoured for their contribution to child rights and their achievements during that period. Among their achievements, stand out the design of the project “Promoting children’s leadership in Tambogrande”, which got US$ 6 thousand dollars from the regional government; and the design of the project “Strengthening entrepreneurial capacities among teenagers and young people at risk” for which they got over US$16 thousand dollars.
