In the final year of her bachelor’s degree in public management, Rixt uses her free time to volunteer for D66, a social-liberal and progressive political party in the Netherlands, member of the ALDE group in the European Parliament. One of their main focus areas is creating equal chances for everyone and creating a stronger and democratic Europe, something Rixt is happy to contribute to.
Recently Rixt has been active in the field of youth participation, sustainability and human rights. She thinks that it is important to involve young people, especially young women, in the decision making processes that will shape their future and the future of our planet. Recently she started a project to make her university Fairtrade together with some friends, and she was vice president of a youth panel for sustainability in her region.
Today Rixt is a youth advocate for Girls Rights Watch, a group of young advocates for girls' rights managed by Plan Netherlands. Together with 16 other young people, she lobbies in the Netherlands for gender equality all over the world.
In her spare time she loves to meet with friends, watching House of Cards and traveling.
