Forty-seven head teachers and circuit supervisors have undergone training on digital learning and girls’ safety in schools in the New Juaben South Municipality.

The training organised by Plan International Ghana was aimed at identifying various challenges and opportunities in education during the coronavirus pandemic and its effect on girls.

Internet access more necessary than ever

Mr. Kofi Adade Debrah, Eastern Regional Director of Plan International Ghana, said internet access had become more necessary than ever adding, that “If we are talking about universal access to education then, we should also be talking about universal access to e-learning.”

If we are talking about universal access to education then, we should also be talking about universal access to e-learning.

He explained that the training was to improve on teaching and learning in the municipality using digital technology and to focus on solutions for the shortfalls that the COVID-19 pandemic had presented to girls in society.

Mr. Boakye Acheampong, Headteacher of a local school, said accessibility to the internet and equipment to facilitate these lessons was a challenge for both teachers and pupils, especially in the semi-rural communities, and called for resources to address the challenge.
