During the conference the role of the EU and its Member States to achieve a sustainable political solution to the crisis (as by UN Security Council Resolution 2254) was reaffirmed as well as their financial commitment to supporting Syrians and the region affected by the crisis.
With over 200 Syrian groups and organisations attending the conference this year, their views were shared on how much more efforts are needed to tackle challenges in relation to education, youth empowerment, GBV and gender inequality, livelihoods, and maintaining the space for civil society.
As Colin Lee, Plan International Regional Programme Director in the MENA region mentioned “The conference was more than a pledging event. It was important that both Syrian and hosting population voices were clearly heard and understood. Plan International is playing its part in the crisis and will continue to do so supporting girls”.

The European Commissioner for Humanitarian and Crisis Management (Christos Stylianides) remarked on how Protection remains the priority in Syria and the region and the importance of quality and inclusive education. Plan International and its partners are already responding to the crisis in Jordan in Lebanon through child protection, education, youth economic empowerment and GBV.
