Global Village, stand 44: A world at Work
Globally, more than 600 million 15-24 year olds are not in school, employment or training and, in the next decade, 1 billion young people will enter the job market. Providing them with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to secure decent employment and succeed in the world of work is essential.
Join Plan International at the European Development Days Global Village (Stand 44) to find out more about our work across Africa, Asia and the Americas to deliver evidence-based, effective and scalable solutions, together with our partners, so that every young person has the chance to fulfil their potential.
We'll be broadcasting live throughout the EDDs, chatting with policymakers and experts from the private sector about how we can create more effective partnerships and scale up programmes to deliver decent jobs and ensure shared, sustainable progress and prosperity for all. We'll also consider the challenges young people around the world face in accessing decent work, including the gap between the skills they have and those the labour market demands, and share best practices on how to overcome these.
Just follow @PlanEUOffice on Facebook to keep up to date.
There is nobody with a greater stake in the issue of youth employment than young people themselves. To ensure they are part of the discussion, we will organise global cafe linking participants from Plan International’s youth economic empowerment programmes in Africa, Asia and Latin America, providing a platform for young people to share their experiences and ideas on the challenges and opportunities they face.
We will be talking to youth in Uganda, India, Brazil and Pakistan to learn more about the economic prospects for young people in their community, the most important thing they've gained from the programme, how to overcome gender discrimination and more.
Do you want to know more? What's it like to be a girl trying to find decent work in India? Or a youth entrepreneur in Uganda? What about the role of parents and mentors in enabling young people to pursue their own goals? Or do you have your own success story to share? Then send your questions and comments to the young people using #EDD17YEE.
We will be broadcasting the Global Cafe at EDD direct from our Stand in the Global Village, Wednesday 7 June 2017, 14.00-15.00 CET. Be sure to pass by and hear what the young people have to say!
We're taking part in the first ever #EDD pitch session. Join us on 7 June, 16.00-17.30 to find out more about Alma - her dreams, why they were dashed, and whether she managed to overcome the obstacles and live the life she had imagined...
