We work with community health services to promote safe births, prevent disease and ensure treatment of common illnesses to eliminate preventable maternal and child deaths. We tackle malnutrition through promoting adequate infant and young child feeding practices and micronutrient supplementation in emergencies - and providing care and nutrition to children that are acutely undernourished.
Every year, 5.9 million children aged under 5 die - 1 million on the day they are born and nearly 2.7 million in their first month
A child’s happiness and development depend on them receiving love and care that responds to their needs and opportunities to play and interact. We promote early childhood care that is free from gender bias and work with communities and partners to ensure that children's rights to healthy development are respected, protected and promoted.
Every year, 200 million children under 5 years in low and middle-income countries fail to reach their potential in cognitive development.
We empower mothers, fathers and caregivers to parent positively, using violence-free discipline, and provide their children with the care and opportunities they need to learn, build self-confidence and relate to others. We develop and implement guidance models for gender-transformative parenting.
We work with parents, communities and education authorities for learning from birth, including community-based playgroups and child-friendly spaces, and expanded access to quality, inclusive formal pre-schooling.
