Skills to succeed for young female migrants

Plan International Vietnam is working with partners to create a safer living and working environment for young female migrants in big cities.

Young female migrants in Hanoi now have access to vocational training and good jobs through a project implemented by Plan International and partners.

The project targets migrant women aged 18-30 in Hanoi or those who are struggling to make ends meet. Working on the outskirts of the city, the aim of the project is to improve the skills and employability of the women, so they are able to find decent work.

Through a local skills training centre, the young women can learn about cooking, tailoring, sales, makeup and hairdressing. They also learn soft skills and life skills to increase their chance of finding good jobs.

The project has also created a business network which provides job opportunities for graduates of the course. In addition, graduates can receive support from the project for 6 months after they graduate.

We also work with government agencies, local authorities and employers to make sure that women have a decent and safe work environment.

So far, 227 young female migrants have got good jobs because of the project and 3 others have started their own small businesses.
