Estefany is a little girl who was born with hip dysplasia, a situation that happens to many babies, but sadly, as she lives in a rural area, doctors from her community did not detect this condition, when it could have simply been solved by the use of a double diaper.
This recent problem was discovered by her mother when Estefany started walking. Unfortunately, by that time the solution was not as simple as this: the little girl now needed surgery, which had a high cost, something unattainable for a family like hers.
"I want to thank you all for the support you have given me and my little daughter, that way she was able to be operated, at first I was very scared, but now I'm happy that, thanks to God, everything is going well. They already took out the cast." Flavia, Estefany's mother
The mom sought, by all means, a solution to the problem of her child, but unfortunately, every time there was a hope with the surgery, everything was falling apart because the economic factor was determining.
Time was passing by, the situation of the child was becoming more delicate and hopes for surgery increasingly looked more distant. The concern of Doña Flavia was greater because she saw her daughter developing with difficulty as it was hard for her to walk, also, the dysplasia was increasingly visible and she thought that the future of her child would be sad.
But eventually, things changed because, with the help of Plan International, the mom was able to contact a specialist who would perform this surgery in the city of Tarija, voluntarily, and the family only had to cover some materials and medicines costs, which, in comparison to the previous one, was the most accessible option. With the support of the Special Service provided by Plan International to their young members, they began to realize all contacts. It supported the family in the transfer of the child from their community to the city, for analysis and pre-surgery controls, then leaned together with the Departmental Specialized Unit for Persons with Disabilities, with the purchase of materials and medications for the awaited surgery...
I want to thank you all for the support you have given me and my little daughter
The operation was a success, but the road to recovery still needs a lot of dedication and care by the mother. Throughout the process, before and after the surgery, the small Estefany showed us that she really is a fighter, like her mother, because after all they never gave up.
As the Dr. said. It was a very complicated surgery, one of the largest ever made in Tarija
"As the Dr. said. It was a very complicated surgery, one of the largest ever made in Tarija, but the good thing is that everything went well and we were able to support this little girl" Lily Morales, Head of the Department Specialized Unit for People with Disabilities.
Today, after more than four months, they removed the cast that they placed and to the delight of everyone following this case, the child evolved very well and will soon begin physiotherapy to walk again. How nice it is to say that this girl's life has completely changed and that very soon we will see Estefany running down the field, like any normal child. This teaches us that with hard work, dedication and a lot of strength one can achieve all that is proposed, and so demonstrated Estefany and her family to never give up.... Now the future of Estefany has another color ... .the color of hope!
