What we do
Plan Vietnam's work to help children, their families and communities to break the cycle of poverty covers the following areas:
- Building relationships
- Early childhood care and development in ethnic minority areas
- Child-centred disaster risk management and climate change adaptation
- Child protection for all
Building relationships
Plan's work is supported by thousands of child sponsors. The relationship between a sponsor and the sponsored child is built and strengthened through visits, letters, and updates on project developments and how they benefit the child and community.
This process helps sponsors to understand development issues and commit to the realisation of children's rights.
Through sponsorship communications, children can develop their abilities to express themselves, to think about the community in which they live and to share their views with their sponsors.
To date more than 40,000 children in Vietnam have sponsors.
Early childhood care and development
This programme aims to take care of children both at home and in pre-school and takes into account all the conditions for them to have the best start in life by:
- providing them with stimulating and child-friendly educative environments – See how
- improving the quality and accessibility of water supplies and sanitation, and teaching proper hygiene practice
- promoting healthy behaviour and awareness – See how
- giving them access to a quality basic education, emphasising child and parent participation in school governance and child-centred teaching and learning – See how
Child protection for all
Plan works to sensitise communities to the issue of children's rights abuses and to mobilise children, their families and communities in support of child protection.
We give particular attention to ensuring basic social services are accessible to children of poor migrant families and children in conflict with the law. See how.
We also create opportunities for disadvantaged youths to develop marketable skills through vocational training. The Livelihood Advancement Business School (LABS) programme has provided 2,766 youths aged 17 to 25 with free vocational training from which 87% have secured full-time employment and a brighter future.
