Country Director, Glenn Gibney

Glenn Gibney joined Plan Vietnam in August 2011, bringing with him more than 25 years of experience working in Asia.

Having spent 27 years with various non-governmental and UN agencies, Glenn has focused on sustainable farming, healthcare and HIV, emergency relief and water and sanitation. Much of his work in Asia was in Indonesia, Myanmar and Bangladesh.

He has learned that a key to success is ensuring that governments and organisations have the knowledge and experience to make development programmes sustainable.

“It is important to enable local staff through empowerment, involvement, delegation and direct experience,” he said.

He has expanded on proven, effective water and sanitation programmes by working with governments to make them policy.

Now managing 200 staff in Vietnam, with programmes in 15 provinces, Glenn will build on Plan’s child-centered community development approach to support marginalised children.

Glenn and his wife Lin are the proud parents of two university-level daughters and one son, who is now in primary school.
