Country Director, Donal Keane
Donal Keane has worked with Plan for 25 years, bringing with him an unparalleled passion for development, industry expertise and hands-on experience.
Following a postgraduate degree in intercultural management and the philosophy of education, Donal launched his career in rural Malawi, where he worked for 9 years in community development before joining Plan.
Since then, he has enjoyed many international postings working for Plan in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Indonesia, Thailand and Uganda in various capacities. “My assignments have always involved jobs that I find interesting,” he says.
While managing operations as the Regional Director of Plan Asia, Donal was instrumental in launching an initiative known as the Child Focused Community Development Approach, which eventually evolved into Child Centred Community Development (CCCD), a strategic direction adopted by Plan in 2002.
“I was impressed then and I am still impressed today with Plan’s child-centred approach to development, where children are truly at the heart of our work,” he says. The CCCD approach remains at the core of Plan’s humanitarian work today.
Donal’s work has inspired his family. “Our children were reared overseas and are extremely thankful for the opportunity they have had to grow up in the developing world. They are both at university now and remain faithful advocates for the rights of children and youth on their college campuses.”
