Country Director, John McDonough
John McDonough started his career as a commercial greenhouse manager but soon shifted to the development field as a volunteer in Thailand. For the past 20 years he has dedicated most of his professional career to development issues, particularly in Asia.
In 1990 he joined Plan as assistant director in Egypt. He then worked for Plan in a number of capacities and countries including field director in Thailand, regional administrator for South East Asia, regional livelihood advisor for Asia and country director in Cambodia as well as Uganda.
His academic background demonstrates his deep interest in development and includes a degree in agriculture from Cornell University, USA, as well as a double master’s degree in economics and international affairs from Ohio University, USA.
Assigned to Plan Indonesia in 2007, John has been impressed by the size, diversity and potential of Indonesia. Together with the country management team he has been working to integrate and expand Plan’s child rights based approach in Indonesia.
