Programme highlights

Livelihoods

As livestock farming is the main source of livelihood in Yu Lin, Plan has helped establish 6 cooperatives, focusing on increasing the breeding quantity and quality of livestock. The cooperatives have increased the income of villagers and improved the development of communities as a whole.

We have also introduced microfinance activities to lend people the capital they need to establish small businesses or expand existing ones.

Community health

Plan provides training in water and environmental sanitation for women and children living in deprived communities, and helps them to cultivate healthy habits.

We implement safe drinking water projects, provide small-scale irrigation equipment, and help families to build sanitary latrines. Together with the local government, we are integrating bio-gas systems for villagers which can save coal for daily cooking and electricity and help protect the environment. A bio-gas system saves each household CNY 800 (US$117) annually.

Doctor and student training

Plan has established a health management committee and runs training for 160 village doctors in Yuyang district. We have also supplied vital medical equipment to 49 village clinics and trained students in health education to raise their awareness of health risks and inform them of appropriate treatment.

Advocating for child rights

Plan has implemented child rights training for 9,300 people, distributed 7,500 advocacy materials to children, teachers, parents and villagers, implemented awareness-raising activities for teachers and parents in 9 primary schools and constructed support activities through the establishment of children's clubs, including drama and art clubs.

Best possible start to life

Plan has supported 27 schools to actively involve teachers and children in forming their school development plans.

We have also provided training for kindergarten teachers and equipment for kindergartens so young children's minds can develop in a nourishing, child-friendly environment under the supervision of informed, engaging teachers.
