Programme highlights
Keeping mothers and children healthy
Plan, with the support of local government, has made great efforts to improve the capacity of medical institutions. We've trained medical workers at county, township and village level to provide quality care for pre-school children and their parents.
Teachers have been given information on nutrition to improve the health of students, and villagers - especially women - have received information on disease prevention.
Advocating for child rights
In 8 schools, Plan has set up children's drama and art clubs, which have attracted the participation of 50% of children. By creating and performing drama and painting, children have been advocating for their rights and changing community attitudes.
Sanitising communities' environments
Plan has developed facilities including potable water, water cellars, and sanitation latrines to improve the safety of community environments. Villagers have been trained in water, and environment and sanitation, and their resolve to protect their environment and health has been strengthened.
Livelihoods and social activities
Plan has distributed more than 10,000,000 CNY (US$1,460,000) in microfinance loans, which have enabled 1,083 women from poor families to establish or build on their small businesses.
We have also built women's entertainment centres, set up women's reading groups and trained the community in animal husbandry and processing.
Providing education for all
Plan has helped schools purchase teaching equipment and conducted various children’s activities, such as broadcasting radio shows and establishing painting and calligraphy interest groups.
We have trained 6,400 teachers in child-centered teaching and learning methods which has resulted in pupils receiving greater stimulation in a child-friendly environment.
