Boosting food security in Nicaragua
October 2010: Hundreds of families facing food shortages in some of the poorest rural areas of Nicaragua are now eating healthily thanks to Plan’s food security programme.
Climate change affects many people in Nicaragua – particularly farming communities who suffer from droughts and floods, making food production difficult.
In 1998 the Nicaraguan government asked Plan for assistance in reactivating productive systems and repairing damaged water and sanitation infrastructure.
Watch the video and see how Plan has helped families from Masaya, Carazo, Villa el Carmen and San Rafael del Sur municipalities gain the knowledge and skills they need to boost harvests, earn money and keep their communities food secure.
Children were central to the project and directly involved in producing this video as part of Plan’s child media work, which helps children to speak out on issues affecting their lives.
