Where we work

Bolivia MapOur programmes help 48,500 children and adolescents from 1,100 communities in rural Bolivia.
Plan’s core activities include:

  • social governance in favour of children and adolescents
  • child and maternal health
  • integrated early childhood  development

Altiplano

Number of sponsored children: 14,900
Plan implements home-based and centre-based approaches of early stimulation and education in Altiplano. We focus on increasing parents’ skills to assess and promote early childhood development, through home visits and family workshops carried out by community volunteers. The emphasis is on creating loving, stimulating and caring family and community environments that respect children’s rights and improve health and nutrition.

Santa Cruz

Number of sponsored children: 11,750
Plan Bolivia supports families affected by floods and landslides, providing humanitarian aid in coordination with the municipalities, the ECHO project of the European Union, prefecture of the department of Santa Cruz, Civil Defense, SAR-rescue group and other non-governmental organisations.

We provide training on education, health, rights, and protection measures to avoid the violation of the rights of women and children in shelters. We also cooperate with transportation and delivering packages of basic hygienic kits (e.g. soap, towels) food (lentils, oatmeal) back-packs, school materials, latrines, clothing, gas containers and stoves.

Sucre

Number of sponsored children: 13,050
In Sucre we implement artificial productive water reservoirs which have developed a local dynamic of protection and conservation of the soil and water natural resources, such as forestation and  sustainable agricultural production.

These processes have generated integral agriculture, crop diversification, raised income, improved nutrition and contributed to a local sustainable development. Children have been active participants in the process.

Tarija

Number of sponsored children: 8,800
Plan’s interventions emphasise children’s participation in decisions that affect their lives. Through the ‘Child-friendly Municipalities’ project in Tarija many children and adolescents are being trained on project planning and they develop skills to design their own projects. They learn how to analyse the reality of their community and write projects which they propose to the municipal authorities.
