Fikru Abebe takes over the reign at Plan Uganda

Fikru Abebe, the newly appointed Country Director, Plan Uganda.

Fikru Abebe is the new Country Director of Plan Uganda. He takes over from Subhadra Belbase who retired from Plan mid May 2012 after serving for 4 years as the helm of Plan in Uganda.

“Fikru brings a wealth of experience in community development, strategic planning, change management, networking and partnership, resource mobilization, emergency and humanitarian response” Gezahegn Kebede, Plan Regional Director for the East African and Southern region, said in a statement.

Before his latest appointment, Fikru served in Plan South Sudan as Country Director since February 2010. He has a cumulative 27years experience from other international organisations such as Christian Children’s Fund, CIPAR and GIFITA Development Studies Ltd in Uganda and Ethiopia.

He arrives at a crucial time when Plan Uganda is in the middle of implementing its Country Strategic Plan 2010 – 2015 as well as planning the global campaign ‘Because I am a Girl’ on 11th October 2012.

Elizabeth Amuge who has been acting as Plan Uganda Country Director since May 2012, welcomed Fikru’s appointment saying that his breadth of experience will be very resourceful in building on what Plan Uganda has achieved through its former Country Director.
