Country Director, David Muthungu
David Muthungu, Plan Tanzania's country director.
David started his career with Plan in 1987 as a research and evaluation manager in Kenya, having previously worked with the Women’s Bureau in Nairobi and as a district social development officer and tutorial fellow at the University of Nairobi.
He served as Plan’s director for the eastern and southern Africa region from 2001 to June 2007 and as a member of the global management team for 3 years.
David is a strong strategic thinker and can translate strategic plans into effective actions. His achievements in both East and West Africa are extensive: he started the first urban programme of Plan in West Africa and participated in the development of the Africa Child Policy Forum as a board member. He was also instrumental in opening new Plan offices in Mozambique, Rwanda and South Sudan.
He holds a master’s degree in sociology majoring in quantitative methods and evaluation, has completed a certificate course in utilisation focused evaluation from the University of Minnesota, and is a graduate of Harvard Business School Executive Education.
David believes that every individual has a strong desire to improve themselves and Plan helps many people to do so. He is passionate and knowledgeable about Africa and its development opportunities.
