Guli is located in White Nile state, in the middle of Sudan. Most people are farmers depending mainly on traditional irrigation for agriculture and animal breeding.

Plan has been operating in Guli since 1997 and carries out projects in partnership with communities and the local government.

Programme highlights
Children’s health

Plan interventions focus on primary health care to improve children’s health. Programmes focus on child survival, the integrated management of child illnesses, infectious disease control, safe motherhood, family planning, immunisation, HIV and AIDS awareness raising, management of heath information systems and capacity building of health carers and volunteers.

Safe environment for children

Plan supports families to have access to safe drinking water and sanitation. This is in addition to awareness raising on personal and environmental hygiene through our Community-Led Total Sanitation approach, which educates communities and helps them to construct and maintain their own latrines.

Learning for life

Plan is working to promote child quality learning in order to increase the percentage of children enrolled in schools and to enhance the pupils’ performance and retention in the rural communities. This is in addition to supporting adult education and pre-school and early child care and development programmes.

Household economic security

Plan works in collaboration with the government to upgrade irrigation schemes and build the capacities of farmers on modern agricultural methods and techniques to increase crop production and families’ income.

Child protection and participation

Plan continuously raises awareness on child rights, protection and participation through various campaigns in order for children to have a strong voice in issues and decisions affecting their lives.
