Who's who
Augustine Allieu, Plan Sierra Leone's country director
Country Director, Augustine Allieu
Augustine has spent most of his work life serving and working for children. He started as a secondary school teacher in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and then worked for a number of development agencies before joining Plan in July 2003 first as monitoring manager and later as programme support manager.
Augustine has a science degree from the University of Sierra Leone, and a host of post graduate certificates, including a certificate in peace building from the Joan B. Croc Institute for International Studies, University of Notre Dame, Indiana State, USA.
When Plan resumed operations in Liberia after 14 years of absence as a result of the country’s civil war, Augustine took up the post of country director from 2006 to 2010, to re-establish Plan’s operations. He found this a great opportunity to work towards restoring the lost dignity and values of children in Liberia. He joined Plan as country director of Sierra Leone in October 2010.
“I am most excited to work with Plan to support the growth, development and wellbeing of the children of Sierra Leone, a country whose past civil war has led to a lot of child poverty, child abuse and deprivation."
