Basic education

We seek to ensure that all children graduate from primary school (6th grade) and that a majority of them graduate from secondary school (10th grade). 

Plan Guinea also works to increase the capacity of communities to provide education services for their children and to maximise the number, variety and quality of learning opportunities for children in more remote areas.

Child participation and protection

Through this programme, children are being made aware that they have basic rights. Although in Guinea child participation in decision-making processes varies greatly depending on cultural practices, this programme strives to boost the participation of children and youths to promote children’s rights through media campaigning.

Good hygiene and sanitation practices

We work to ensure that children aged under 5 years are immunised against major life threatening diseases.  We also work to reduce the spread of HIV through awareness-raising activities and supporting community health workers.

Governance and civil society development

This programme aims to strengthen the capacity of community councils so that they can assume their roles and responsibilities and support the capacity of community-based organisations to assume their roles and responsibilities in overseeing delivery of various services. This is carried out by:

• disseminating all documents on the national policy of decentralisation
• providing training on roles and responsibilities of local council members and their relationship with local government units at prefecture and sub-prefecture levels (how the local council function, how they raise funds, how they act and collaborate with the government unit etc).
