Giza Programme Unit

Population: 2,500,000
Districts and communes: 10 districts

Plan Egypt started working in the Giza Programme Unit in 2006 to facilitate community empowerment and trigger social movement through advocacy, immersion, participation, monitoring and evaluation.

Programme highlights
Early childhood care and development

This programme promotes early childhood care and development in partnership with government departments and authorities through several activities such as training community facilitators on facilitation skills, parental guide content and child training.

Community learning

This project entails training local leaders on child rights, protection and advocacy, providing books for school libraries, and ensuring participation in preparing school magazines, trips and camps for children to help them gain various skills and experiences.

Other programmes include Plan’s Learn Without Fear campaign to end violence in schools, projects to tackle early marriage and Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), where villages put a stop to open-air defecation to improve community health.

The core principles in all Plan programmes are child rights, child protection, and community participation, working with the community as a whole without any form of discrimination, and ensuring gender equality, volunteering, community capacity building, raising awareness and community self-reliance.
