Programme highlights

Public and community information about Plan

We are running a "What is Plan?" campaign at the regional, divisional, council and community levels to make people aware of the work we do.

At the end of the campaign we hope that all administrative and traditional authorities, government technical services, councilors, children, their families and the community will be able to understand what Plan is all about and to talk of Plan in their respective communities, integrate them in their plans; and help enroll children in sponsorship activities.

Training communication volunteers

Plan is working with local councils and communities to produce sponsor child introduction packages. These packages include information and pictures of the children who are being enrolled in the sponsorship programme. With the input of children, women and community leaders, we are selecting and training community volunteers to gather this information.

Community capacity building

Based on issues identified in council development plans, Plan is working with councilors, community leaders, and government technical departments to joint projects to reduce child poverty.

We will be putting project management committees in place and training councilors to understand child rights issues and run projects in collaboration with Plan.

Identifying local issues

Plan is carrying out an analysis of the lives of children in the area so major issues can be identified and we can prioritise actions. We will be working closely with children, their families, the community, councils, government and civil society organisations to do this.

Once the issues have been addressed we will be able to establish a long term development plan for the area.
