Bell’Aube Houinato, Plan Benin's Country Director
Sociologist and medical anthropologist Bell’Aube Houinato is married with 4 children. For many years he worked at the grassroots level in Benin before joining Plan in 1995. Within a few years he became Plan Benin country director. He then moved to Sierra Leone where he was also country director and led the implementation of sustainable community development and emergency programmes.
He joined Plan Benin again in 2008 as country director after an assignment in Togo where he was responsible for the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Child Centred Community Development programmes. His 5 years in Togo gave him a keen interest in rights-based and advocacy approaches to improving children's welfare.
“Being assigned in my home country is an experience that presents as many challenges as opportunities,” said Bell’Aube, talking about his new role. He and his colleagues in Benin share a passion for working with children and innovating, and as one of his first major tasks in Benin, he is looking forward to working with Plan’s new system for monitoring and evaluating programmes.
