Prudential
Plan Thailand Country Director Minty Prabha Pande receiving the Prudential Chairman's Award for the second time in 2 years.
Plan UK started a partnership with Prudential in 2005 when the international financial services company launched the Chairman's Award - its first global volunteering initiative to support community projects in countries where they work.
The Chairman's Award donates £100 to a charity of choice for each employee who registers as a volunteer. All volunteer hours are logged and matched by Prudential with a further donation.
In 2006, over 1,600 Prudential employees worked on more than 50 international Plan projects.
Community impact
Volunteering activities have included unskilled labouring, planting trees, and holding lessons for children. Once a year all charity partners are invited to submit their projects for the Chairman's Award, which is judged according to how great an impact Prudential employees feel that the project in question has had upon their community.
The first prize is £10,000. Plan Thailand's early childhood care and development project in the Srirattana district won the award for 2006, while its community forest conservation project in Chiang Rai scooped the award for 2008.
