Plan and NIVEA - the flagship brand of skincare company Beiersdorf - are working in partnership under the motto ‘we care & connect’ to provide children living in poverty with equal access to quality education.
Through the power of our global networks, we are implementing long-term, sustainable projects in developing countries. NIVEA supports the partnership not only by providing funds, but also in-kind donations and expertise.
In developing countries 70,000,000 children do not attend school and those that do frequently drop out. Poor quality education and school infrastructure are just some of the reasons to blame.
Plan and NIVEA are working to improve many things - including school environments, teaching methods and materials. At the same time we are working closely with the local communities to guarantee a positive sustainable change in the lives of children.
By investing in education, we want to help these children to reach their full potential.
Good schools in the Himalayas
Our work to create better learning conditions for over 5,000 children in the Himalayas is one example of the projects supported by the partnership. We are providing basic learning materials, setting up school libraries and child-friendly playing areas, installing water supplies and building toilets in the region.
We are also training teachers to use innovative and effective methods and materials, and strengthening student councils and youth clubs to empower children.
The project will be completed in 2014.
Rwanda sports scheme
In Rwanda, a sport and education scheme has constructed 2 sports fields for primary schools in the villages of Ruhuha and Bihing. The scheme will provide 3,000 children with training, sports kits and educational workshops to supplement their schooling and teach them about their rights.
Other Plan and NIVEA projects are well underway in various countries in Asia, Africa and the Americas and will be implemented over the next 3 years.
