Plan’s partnership with Kemira, a leading water-chemistry company, supports children’s right to water, health and development.
The cooperation under the theme ’water as a human right’ includes supporting projects as well as common campaigns and employee engagement activities.
“A water related responsibility target was a natural choice for Kemira, which concentrates more and more on water related chemistry based on its new strategy,” says Leena Lie, Kemira's Vice President of Marketing and Communications.
“Water is one of the most important prerequisites for life and clean water is a basic requirement for us. The right to water is also closely related to basic human rights,” she continues.
Water, health and development projects
Plan and Kemira have cooperated on projects that safeguard the rights of children to water, health and development in several countries.
This current project supports good hygiene practices and adequate school water and sanitation infrastructure for school children in India.
The focus is on expanding sanitation and water infrastructure, as well as providing dedicated facilities for girls.
In Ethiopia, the programme focuses on the survival and development of children and divides its efforts between improving water and sanitation services and preventing diseases of infancy and childhood.
The work strengthens parents’ and communities possibilities in protecting their children’s lives by providing a clean and safe environment, potable water and access to inexpensive healthcare. Kemira supported the programme from 2010 to 2011.
The early education programme in Bolivia promotes comprehensive child development, beginning at pregnancy. This includes training parents and foster parents in providing a stimulating environment, proper nutrition and safe water in early childhood, and the importance of hygiene. Kemira supported the programme from 2010 to 2011.
In 2010 Kemira supported a water and environmental sanitation project in China. The project greatly improved the school environment and sanitation conditions in Zhang Cheng Middle School and ensured a clean study and living environment for school children.
