Al Gore defends Obama's climate change work
Al Gore talking at the conference
International climate campaigner Al Gore has hit out at critics of the US government who say the superpower is still not doing enough to tackle climate change.
Making up for lost time
Talking to a packed crowd in Copenhagen the Nobel Peace Prize winner said President Barack Obama was now working tirelessly to make up for lost time in the fight to halt global warming.
Gore said: “I have to be a bit patriotic here, because I really think you are being unfair to me and my country now.
“The Obama administration has done more in 1 year than any US President has in the last 25 years to tackle this issue”.
Leading voice
Al Gore has become one of the leading voices in the fight to tackle climate change after he shot to fame with his Oscar-winning movie An Inconvenient Truth.
Speaking at the Good Planet conference this week he praised President Obama for his slick political manoeuvring.
“Obama has been really clever, he has made it possible through The Environmental Protection Agency to force emission cuts over the country without having to legislate in the senate,” he said.
“Still, America has to do a lot more than what is done now.”
