Ghana: child sexual abuse in schools study

Ghana: child sexual abuse in schools studyThe study was conducted with 351 school children aged between 10 and 17 years. Of all respondents, 14% said they had experienced sexual abuse at some point in their lives. It also showed that 53% of sexual abuse takes place within schools compared to 47% occurring at home.

Recommendations from the report include raising awareness of the issues, enforcement of legislation specific to sexual abuse, child rights and sex education to be included in the national curriculum and strengthening of district level institutions such as police and health sevices.
