New legislation on free birth registration in Aceh Besar, Indonesia

New legislation on free birth registration in Aceh Besar, Indonesia Birth registration in Aceh Besar in Indonesia, is now free for children aged 0-6 years following a Plan partnership with the local government to develop new birth registration legislation.

Plan supported a number of children, government officials and legislative staff to attend sessions on the local government regulation known as the Quanun of free birth registration. Plan helped draft the legislation. Work was also carried out to ensure that the new system was accessible to the local community and that those who needed birth certificates were identified.

 ā€œI’m glad, because Plan gives me a free birth certificate. It is very useful for continuing my study and applying for a job after my schooling finishes,ā€ said Mukhlisin, 12, from Ladong village, Mesjid Raya sub-district.

The birth registration campaign established Plan as an authority in creating positive changes in children's lives in Aceh Besar.
