El Salvador's First Lady supports the campaign
El Salvador’s First Lady, Ana Ligia de Saca, backed Plan’s universal birth registration campaign, which led to a commitment to promote and deliver the campaign across the country.
Launched by de Saca, the campaign saw the signing of a letter of agreement between Plan, UNICEF, the national registry, the procurator general, the National Institute for Children and Adolescents and World Vision. The contents of the agreement were published in two major newspapers in El Salvador, highlighting a public commitment to promote the right of children to have a birth certificate.
The partnership developed a coordination plan, which included: approving a law to review the issue of fines for late registration and encourage registration; training the technical personnel of the National Registration of Natural People; and the creation of promotional campaigns to highlight the right to an identity and the registration of births.
