New School Violence Law in Bolivia
Last week, the House of Representatives in Bolivia approved the new Education Act called ‘Avelino Sinani - Elizardo Pérez’. The Act includes the incorporation of school violence prevention principles and regulations.
The new Act will benefit more than 3million children who are currently in pre-school, primary and secondary school in Bolivia.
This great success comes as excellent news to a coalition roundtable who have been working together to develop measures of reduce the prevalence of school violence in Bolivia.
In the context of the Learn Without Fear campaign in Bolivia, Plan and the Ombudsman have been co-chairing the ‘Towards a school life free of violence’ roundtable, on which twenty national and international organisations sit.
The picture show Rolando Villena, Bolivia’s Ombudsman, presenting the school violence prevention Bill on behalf of the Roundtable to Congresswoman Marianela Paco (President of the Human Rights commission) and Pilar Chávez (from the Ministry of Education).
