Learn Without Fear Progress Report

ProgressReportThe Campaign Progress Report details some of the great results which have been achieved since the global launch of Learn Without Fear in October 2008.

Two years later, the campaign is running in 44 countries. Children have been involved in all the aspects of the campaign from planning workshops to raising awareness activities. The report demonstrates exactly how Plan is taking steps to stop violence in schools and shows that remarkable progress is already being made, from legislative changes to innovative approaches such as positive discipline training for teachers or use of social media to reach out to communities.

Achievements include:

  • More than 390 million children benefiting from legislation protecting them from violence in schools
  • Nearly 20,000 teachers trained in non-violent discipline techniques
  • 36 countries able to show anecdotal impact of teacher training on behaviour
  • 23 countries showing reduction in girls’ school dropout rates in campaign areas
  • 94 million people reached by campaign messages through radio and TV shows

Plan will continue to lobby governments to introduce or enforce legislation banning all forms of violence in schools, including corporal punishment, bullying and sexual violence. Plan will continue to work at the regional, national and local level to promote safer school environment through campaigning and activities with children.
