Savings group helps children succeed in school

October 2009: A savings and loans group run by children in Kisaware, Tanzania, is helping pupils to pay their education expenses and succeed in school.

The Plan-supported group is owned and managed by its members, who are aged between 3 and 17 years old.

Watch the video and meet Fatuma, the group's 15-year-old leader, who explains how the members have created an education fund. Although primary school is free in Tanzania, pupils at secondary level have to pay fees and all children need funds to pay for uniforms and other equipment. The group also offers loans, enabling other children to pay their school expenses too.

See how village finance schemes are helping to protect thousands of Tanzanians from absolute poverty.
