October 2013: Glowing pink landmarks, giant erasable walls and Plan events across the world marked this year’s International Day of the Girl.
Huge thanks to everyone who took part and joined us in calling on world leaders to prioritise girls’ education.
Globally, 65 million girls are out of school – held back from accessing their right to education by poverty, violence and discrimination. Not only is this unjust, it’s a huge waste of potential with serious global consequences.
To mark the big day in 2013, Plan’s Because I am a Girl campaign for girls' education lit up some of the world's most famous .
Erase it for girls
Giant Plan eraseable billboards also surfaced across the world for Day of the Girl – displaying the plight of girls being forced to work in a factory instead of going to school.
Raise your hand
We smashed our target of getting 1 million raised hands in support of girls' education before the Day of the Girl. Now we need 4 million raised hands to show the United Nations that the world believes educating girls should be a priority.
Please join us and Raise Your Hand right now
