I came to Haiti to work as a volunteer with a local human rights organisation. With a degree in philosophy and one in international relations, I wanted to be at the heart of the human rights struggle in Haiti. I was naive and eager to learn and learn I did!
I came on a 3 year contract. That was more than 9 years ago.
Today I am Plan Haiti’s communications manager – a familiar role for me. I was communications and advocacy coordinator with Oxfam GB-Haiti and later communications director for CHF International-Haiti.
While I am not new to Haiti or to emergencies in Haiti, I am new to Plan. I hit the ground running on 1 March and haven’t stopped since!
I was here on that Tuesday in January when Port-au-Prince came crashing down. In many ways it is a different Haiti now; but it is still my home. That’s why I am here. Being part of a Plan to rebuild this amazing nation is what keeps me here!
